Nowhere Else to Lie

House Remembrance · 2026

A composition about the strange stability that can remain after everything beneath you gives way. Nowhere Else to Lie was inspired by a dream my sister had of me alone on a raft that shattered beneath me. With nothing left to hold onto, I eventually reached a deserted island, pulled myself from the water, and collapsed from exhaustion. I composed the piece around the emotional truth I heard inside her dream: the realization that I was still held, but the thing holding me was no longer outside of me. The stability was me. It had been there all along.
