When You Thought It Faded

House Remembrance · 2026

When You Thought It Faded began in the space between sleep and waking. I woke from a nap and saw that my father had called three times. When I called back, he didn't answer. In the quiet that followed, notes began arriving before I had decided to write anything. I imagined what he had been calling to tell me, and the melody became a voice: come right here, rest little one. The composition grew from that imagined beckoning, the feeling of something familiar returning just when you thought it had faded beyond reach.
